MOONSTAR

Founded in 1873 in Japan, MOONSTAR is known for its durable, vulcanized rubber footwear that combines traditional craftsmanship with minimalist design, appealing to quality-focused wearers worldwide.

About MOONSTAR

MOONSTAR, a Japanese footwear brand with a legacy dating back to 1873, began in Kurume, Fukuoka, as a producer of traditional Japanese footwear called “tabi,” a type of split-toe sock shoe. Over time, the company evolved from making tabi to producing durable canvas and rubber shoes, establishing itself as a pioneer in Japanese shoemaking.

In the early 20th century, MOONSTAR expanded its offerings, introducing vulcanized rubber techniques, which give shoes flexibility and durability. This method, which involves heating rubber with sulfur, made MOONSTAR’s shoes highly resilient and comfortable, qualities that helped the brand stand out as it moved into creating sports shoes, school shoes, and workwear staples.

The brand’s dedication to quality, durability, and comfort became a hallmark as it navigated changing trends, adapting its designs while preserving traditional craftsmanship. MOONSTAR's vulcanized rubber shoes are highly regarded for their meticulous construction and unique aging process, becoming more flexible and comfortable over time.

Today, MOONSTAR’s products are recognized globally, blending Japanese craftsmanship with minimalist designs. Although they have expanded their product range to include sneakers, slip-ons, and other styles, MOONSTAR maintains its commitment to durability and timeless quality. Their shoes are now featured in select boutiques worldwide, appealing to a global audience that values craftsmanship and durability.

With nearly 150 years of experience, MOONSTAR continues to honor its origins while innovating within modern footwear, preserving its heritage as a respected name in Japanese shoemaking.
