About evan kinori

Evan Kinori founded his namesake clothing label in 2015 in San Francisco, guided by a desire to create timeless, well-crafted garments that reflected his own sensibilities rather than trend-driven fashion. With a background shaped by skateboarding, philosophy studies, and an appreciation for Japanese craftsmanship, Kinori developed a design ethos centered on utility, comfort, and quiet refinement. He works slowly and deliberately, designing, patterning, and sampling each piece himself, often returning to the same foundational silhouettes—such as the Big Shirt, Four Pocket Jacket, and Elastic Pant—which evolve gradually with each season. His materials are carefully chosen, sourced from Japanese mills or deadstock fabric, and include natural fibers like cotton, wool, hemp, and linen.

Operating on a small scale, Kinori releases just two collections a year, sometimes with additional capsule drops, and emphasizes limited production runs to preserve the quality and intention behind each garment. In 2021, he opened a serene retail space on Valencia Street that functions as both store and studio—echoing the brand’s minimalist, considered aesthetic. The space, inspired by artists like Donald Judd, reflects Kinori’s belief that clothing can exist as part of a broader creative environment. His quiet, intentional approach to design has earned him a loyal following and critical recognition, including GQ’s Breakthrough Designer award in 2020, cementing his place in contemporary menswear as a thoughtful, principled voice.
