About Scarpa
Scarpa is an Italian outdoor footwear company with a legacy rooted in craftsmanship, innovation, and a deep connection to the mountains. The brand was founded in 1938 in the Asolo region of northern Italy, an area long known for its tradition of shoemaking. Its name, SCARPA—short for Società Calzaturieri Asolani Riuniti Pedemontana Anonima—was chosen to represent the collective of local shoemakers who came together to preserve and advance their craft. From the very beginning, Scarpa distinguished itself by producing high-quality boots designed for the unique needs of mountaineers, farmers, and workers in the rugged Dolomite terrain.
By the 1950s, Scarpa was already gaining recognition beyond Italy, becoming one of the first Italian shoemakers to export hiking and ski boots to the United States. As mountaineering, trekking, and skiing grew in popularity, Scarpa became synonymous with technical innovation and durable footwear that could withstand the harshest environments. The brand was a pioneer in introducing revolutionary designs, such as plastic ski boots in the 1960s and telemark ski boots in the 1970s, cementing its role at the forefront of outdoor performance gear.
Family-owned to this day, Scarpa is still led by the Parisotto family, who have preserved its artisanal roots while embracing modern technologies. From alpine climbing and ski mountaineering to hiking, trail running, and everyday outdoor wear, Scarpa’s products are developed in close collaboration with athletes and explorers who test them in the most demanding conditions. Every shoe reflects a balance of tradition and innovation—handcrafted techniques paired with cutting-edge materials like GORE-TEX membranes, Vibram soles, and eco-conscious fabrics.
Today, Scarpa is recognized worldwide as one of the leading names in outdoor footwear, trusted by professionals and enthusiasts alike. Its story is one of dedication to the mountains, respect for craftsmanship, and a relentless pursuit of performance—making each pair not just footwear, but a tool for adventure.
